NFL Playoff Football Games on TV Today (Sunday, Jan. 20)

It’s the NFL’s version of the Final Four as the AFC and NFC Championship games are set for Sunday, Jan. 20. And football fans can’t ask for anymore considering Championship Sunday features the top seeds in each conference battling for a spot in Super Bowl LIII.     The NFC Championship between the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints will get things started on Sunday. These two teams met in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome back in Week 9, a game the Saints won 45-35 as both offenses had little trouble moving the ball up and down the field. That victory gave New Orleans the tiebreaker for the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. So will the Saints’ home cooking get them to the Super Bowl or will the Rams end up as the team marching on to Atlanta?     The nightcap has New England and Kansas City facing off in Arrowhead Stadium for the AFC title. These teams also played each other during the regular season, as the Patriots beat the Chiefs 43-40 in Week 6 at home thanks to a game-winning field goal as time expired. Patrick Mahomes put up bigger numbers than Tom Brady in that game, but the young QB also had a pair of costly interceptions. Will Kansas City’s youth and athleticism be enough to overcome New England’s experience and postseason pedigree?     So if you’re wondering, “What football games are on today?” know this: There are two scheduled for today, Sunday, Jan. 20.     NFC Championship: Los Angeles Rams at New Orleans Saints  3:05 p.m. ET on FOX — Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans  Why You Should Watch: These two teams combined for nearly 1,000 yards of offense (970) when they met in Week 9. Drew Brees and Jared Goff both put up huge numbers in that game but both teams’ defenses have played better as of late. Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas exploded for 211 receiving yards in the first meeting and he was the bulk of the offense last week as well, so how effective the Rams are in containing the All-Pro could be a key to this one. Todd Gurley and Alvin Kamara are both capable of producing big plays of their own as well. Also keep an eye on Los Angeles’ defensive line, led by reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald, going up against New Orleans’ rock-solid offensive line.  Spread: Saints -3.5  Over/Under: 57     AFC Championship: New England Patriots at Kansas City Chiefs  6:40 p.m. ET on CBS — Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.  Why You Should Watch: Patrick Mahomes (352 passing yards, 4 TDs) outperformed Tom Brady (340, TD) in their Week 6 meeting but the MVP favorite also tossed two costly interceptions in what ended up being a game decided on a last-second field goal. As explosive as Kansas City’s offense has been, it was New England that racked up 500 yards in that game as Sony Michel went for 106 rushing yards and two TDs. He was huge last week against the Chargers as well, so the Chiefs’ defense will have to find a way to limit the Patriots’ lead back. New England’s defense has to not only
