David Veikune went from outside linebacker to outsider with the Browns. The team waived the disappointing second-round draft pick Tuesday, cutting ties with the former Hawaii defensive end that Cleveland tried to convert into a linebacker for its 3-4 system. The Browns used the No. 52 overall pick in last year's draft to select Veikune (VAY-coo-nay), a 6-foot-2, 257-pounder.

Browns nose tackle Shaun Rogers has returned to practice after missing training camp and Cleveland's exhibition season while recovering from a leg injury. Rogers missed the final five games last season after breaking his leg. Browns coach Eric Mangini said Rogers, a three-time Pro Bowler, could play in the season opener on Sunday at Tampa Bay.
